Morocco

Where
We have been involved with Tijhza village in Morocco for almost 10 years now.
Or main focus has been on education, water provision and healthcare. We also have some environmental initiatives and offer a variety of assistance to the village poor.

Who
We work in conjunction with the Tijhza Village Association and our friends Mohammed El Qasamey and his english wife Carolyn who run the project work there.

Why
Tijhza is a village tucked away in the High Atlas Mountains and a little forgotten about by the authorities. The village is very poor with no health care, water problems and a run down school.

Achievements

Hammam
Our largest project to date is under construction and due for completion in September 2011. Along with Exodus Travels we are funding a community Hammam (bath house) which is aimed at providing employment for villagers and income for the Village Association. It will also have an environmental benefit as well as cultural and medical. The next phase after the Hammam is completed will be to build a village bakery on the back of the site in order to maximise usage of the Hammam oven and create more income and employment.
Our long term goal is that the income from these initiatives will enable the Village Association to fund its own projects in future.
