We take a holistic approach to our sponsored school children and students. We aim to strike a balance between giving them our full support, care and attention whilst trying to ensure that they can stand on their own two feet as well. Nearly all of our children come from extreme poverty and they and their families have no means of support without our help.
Sometimes it is simply a case of buying school uniform to get the children into school. Other times it is more complex. Either way we like the children to feel part of the Baraka family and we encourage them to help each other.
"My sponsorship through Baraka is a gift I could barely dare to dream of when I was very small. Who would have thought I could be where I am today, a proud graduate?"
Sponsoring a child with Baraka is a fairly simple process and you can start at any time as we always have a shortage of donors and a waiting list of children. Depending on your budget you can help a primary school child, a secondary school child or even a college/university student. We also have community teachers who we are helping gain formal qualifications.
Lorna Barker is our Zambian Education Director and is based in Zambia. She knows all the children and students in our programme and will advise you on how you can sign up and help a Zambian child with a life changing gesture.
"Sponsoring a young person's education makes a tremendous difference to the individual and has ripple effects throughout their life. It's been an honour and a pleasure for me to be a sponsor and a mentor when possible.
