Baraka Community Partnerships fund two book boats in Laos in conjunction with our partners Community Learning International (CLI) who operate the boats.
The larger boat that is based in Luang Prabang, operates on the Mekong River and will visit over 100 rural villages annually, mostly inaccessible by road. The smaller boat is based in the provincial outpost of Nong Kiaw and operates on the Ou river, serving 44 villages each year. |
The excellent crew of these boats provide educational games (as well as plain fun games) for the kids and donate regular supplies of books, note books, pens, pencils etc. plus basic hygiene provisions such as soap, toothpaste and tooth brushes. They also conduct vital health workshops including hand washing, teeth cleaning and advice about going to the toilet safely where there are no facilities.
