Baraka is a small charity dedicated to working with disadvantaged communities to advance the education, healthcare and community life of the people in the communities. We primarily work with communities in Zambia and Laos. Baraka is a registered charity (no. 1130756) and a company limited by guarantee (no. 6885037).
Our legal basis for processing your information
Data privacy law requires us to have one or more lawful grounds to process your personal information. The following grounds are relevant to our use of your information:
Consent. In many cases we will seek consent to process your personal information, for example to send you our newsletter. Where we do rely on consent, you are entitled to withdraw it at any time.
To protect your vital interests. For example to ensure you get urgent medical assistance if needed when competing in a Baraka organised fundraising event.
Where we have a contractual relationship with you. Though the majority of our relationships are voluntary, if we enter into a contract with you we will process information to administer that contract.
Legal obligations. We will sometimes pass on personal information to comply with legal obligations such as providing tax and gift aid information to HMRC.

e-newsletter subscription

We will not contact you for marketing purposes by email unless you have given your prior consent. You can unsubscribe from our e-newsletter at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any of the newsletters or by emailing [email protected].
Sponsored Children
In signing up to the sponsored children programme you will be asked to provide your name and email address. The information is used only for contacting you about the administration of the programme (this includes feedback on exam results etc.).
Events
If you take part in a Baraka organised fundraising event we may collect personal information such as your name and contact details. The information is used only for event administration and organisation.
Volunteers
If you volunteer for Baraka we will collect personal information, for example your name and contact details. The information is used only to manage your volunteering relationship with Baraka.
Making a donation
Your information (not debit/credit card information) may be shared with us by independent third parties e.g. fundraising sites such as BT MyDonate or Virgin Money Giving. These independent third parties will only do so when you have indicated that you wish to support Baraka, and with your consent. You should check the privacy policy of the third party you provide your information to so you understand fully how they will process your data and what data they will share with us.
Retention of personal information
We will hold your personal information whilst we are actively engaged with you. We will also retain your personal information in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Who we will share your information with
We don't rent, trade or share information with other organisations and businesses. We may however share your information with HMRC for Gift Aid and where you have given us permission to contact you we may use external providers to do this on our behalf.
